Cyclone Alert for Andhra Pradesh: Heavy Rain Expected Across Coastal Districts on October 27–28

VISAKHAPATNAM: A developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a powerful cyclonic storm and approach the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Coastal districts have been placed on alert as forecasts indicate heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds over the coming days.

The weather system had intensified into a depression over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal by October 24. The IMD forecast issued on October 25 indicated further intensification as the system moves towards the west-central Bay of Bengal. The forecast track points towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, with the possibility of landfall requiring close monitoring.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Alert

The developing system could affect several coastal districts, including Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kakinada and the Godavari region.

According to the forecast, rainfall activity is expected to increase significantly on October 27 and 28. Some locations may experience very heavy or extremely heavy rainfall, depending on the system’s movement and intensity.

Residents are advised to follow updates from the IMD and local authorities as the forecast may change.

Rainfall Forecast for October 25–28

October 25–26: Light to moderate rainfall is possible at isolated places, with weather conditions expected to change as the system intensifies.

October 27: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast across several parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Isolated locations may receive extremely heavy rainfall.

October 28: Widespread rainfall activity may affect coastal districts as the system approaches the coast. Extremely heavy rainfall is possible at isolated places, including parts of north Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The intensity and distribution of rainfall will depend on the cyclone’s eventual track and strength.

Strong Winds and Rough Sea Conditions

The approaching system is also expected to bring strong winds and increasingly rough sea conditions along the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Fishing communities should pay close attention to official marine warnings. Fishermen should avoid venturing into areas covered by IMD advisories, and people should stay away from rough coastal waters during hazardous conditions.

What Should Residents Do?

Residents in coastal and low-lying areas are advised to:

  • Monitor official weather forecasts and district administration announcements.
  • Secure loose objects, outdoor equipment and temporary structures.
  • Keep mobile phones charged and essential supplies ready.
  • Avoid crossing flooded roads, streams and overflowing drains.
  • Stay away from beaches and the sea during rough weather.
  • Follow evacuation instructions if issued by local authorities.

People living in vulnerable areas should remain prepared without relying on unverified social media messages.

Stay Updated on the Developing Cyclone

The coming days will be important in determining the system’s final track, intensity and potential impact on the Andhra Pradesh coastline. Residents of Srikakulam and other coastal districts should remain alert and follow official advisories.
